Music is a powerful tool to get in touch with your feelings. I find it cathartic to really let myself be immersed in sadness/happiness/anger (or any other feeling) through listening to music. Whatever you are going through at any given time, music helps. It just does. Music can also be used as a tool to consciously change your mood – by simply changing which tracks you listen to, you can shift your mood from sad to a little happier. I find that absolutely fascinating.
