It is a method used in city planning all over the world, with the aim of controlling how citizens move around public places. Subtle design choices can have a profound effect, like uncomfortable benches stopping people from lingering for too long, or benches designed to be impossible to sleep on. The brochure is – in itself – excluding, because you have to use a smartphone in order to see all the written text. This is made possible through AR (Augmented Reality) markers that are printed in the brochure. &nbsp; &nbsp; In order to show how many variations of excluding design there are, I have researched park benches all over the world and illustrated them. Something Borrowed https://susannalycke.com/Something-Borrowed Fri, 09 Sep 2022 15:01:40 +0000 Susanna Lycke https://susannalycke.com/Something-Borrowed Something Borrowed is the name of a furniture exhibition by Malmstens college at Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. Focusing on sustainability, the students came up with the idea of using only borrowed materials to build their expo stand, so that they could return them in reusable condition when the fair was over. The exhibition’s visual identity is permeated by this concept – all of the set design in the photo backdrops are made of borrowed industry waste material, and the logo is inspired by the notion of taking different-shaped waste materials and moulding them into letters. Now that a great deal of our communication takes place digitally, via text messages, misunderstandings are often caused by misinterpreted emojis or ambiguous wordings. This is a short, experimental dance film about two individuals having trouble communicating and connecting with each other. Through dance and graphics, their conversation is visualised. Os Estatutos do Homem https://susannalycke.com/Os-Estatutos-do-Homem Sun, 31 Jan 2021 18:30:33 +0000 Susanna Lycke https://susannalycke.com/Os-Estatutos-do-Homem This is a personal project in which I illustrated and layouted a poem as a poster. The poem was written by Thiago de Mello in 1964, as a protest against the many repressive extra-constitutional decrees issued by the military junta, which had seized power in Brazil that same year. It is called Os Estatutos do Homem, which means The Statutes of Humankind. The poem was written in Portuguese, but I have included a translation of the poem in French, because that is the language in which I read it.
